Flava Out West 2009
held on Saturday 31st October 2009 at Parrs Park, Glen Eden.
Flava Out West is the Waitemata Primary Schools Kapa Haka Competitions. Lauched in 2006, this event is designed to build bridges of cultural understanding whilst sharing the richness of a Maori cultural experience with our communities. Every year over 400 performers showcase their creative talents in both traditional and contemporary maori art forms.
Performance Categories are: 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes: Haka, Waiata a ringa, Poi. Other Awards for: Best Kaitiaki Tane, Best Kaitiake Wahine, Best Tutor, Whanaungatanga Award, Best Kakahu, Most Enthusiastic.
Whilst Flava Out West is a competition, it was designed first and foremost to be a ‘FUN” competition where children can showcase their performances and receive recognition for their hard work. This event is designed to meet the needs of where your group are at, as we are more interested in the children having a go and encouraging them, than the pressure of hard core competition.
Groups can enter one item, all items or a mixture of comp items with non-comp items. For an example, your group may want to perform 6 items, but only enter two of the 6 items into the competition.
Every school group entered receives a trophy and a certificate, so there are no losers!
